NEW Restaurants at Snowmass Base Village

For the 2008/2009 winter season, Snowmass Base Village will transform into a world-class resort experience with some of the finest culinary offerings available. Already known for the famous ski slopes, Snowmass has a new $1 billion Base Village development underway, which will entice visitors to stay overnight and enjoy breakfast, lunch, après-ski and dinner at a wide range of restaurants. Highly anticipated Snowmass restaurant openings include seven new dining venues for this winter season:

Junk

Junk, this new concept eatery plans on redefining fast food forever. “Good Junk, Bad Junk, (the only Junk your mom will let you eat)” may be the eatery’s tag line; however the locally acquired natural and organic ingredients smack of something a bit healthier that is still delicious. With a background in well known San Francisco and Las Vegas restaurants, chef Alison Richman will incorporate local, organic ingredients with her love for the ‘farm to fork’ dining revolution. Opens mid-December 2008. (Snowmass, CO. The New Snowmass Base Village, 970-920-1090; www.funworldwide.net)

Liquid Sky

Run by the same owner and chef as Junk, Liquid Sky also hails from the highly successful N9NE Group, known for popular culinary destinations in Chicago, Las Vegas and Dallas. Hipsters will kick back at this hot, après ski spot, complete with an indoor-outdoor lounge, all-day dining and three different DJ booths. “It was very critical to us that we brought Vegas sizzle here, but we ‘mountainized’ everything,” said owner Scott DeGraff. Opens mid December 2008. (Snowmass, CO. The New Snowmass Base Village, 970-920-1090; www.N9NEgroup.com)

The Sweet Life

For the kids, Telluride’s famous Sweet Life will open in the heart of the Base Village with more than 200 flavors of ice cream churned on site in a demonstration kitchen. The Sweet Life rocks as a 1950s style diner upstairs and a creamery parlor and candy store downstairs, featuring homemade ice cream with fresh ingredients and no preservatives. A featured “S’mores table” will delight kids, while reasonable price points of hot dogs, French fries and ice-cream for under $4.95, will delight parents. Opens November 2008. (Snowmass, CO. 69 Wood Road, Suite 114, The Snowmass Base Village; 970.923.9903; www.thesweetlifeinc.com.)

Buchi

Buchi comes to Snowmass Village from Jeffrey Klein, co-founder of Aspen’s Nobu famed sushi restaurant, Matsuhisa. “Buchi” in Japanese means “to slap down” and Klein and crew plan to slap down the latest concept of Japanese comfort dining with an innovative fusion of coastal foods, combining spices from Asia and the Americas, set with comfortable, interactive, non-traditional ‘sushi bar’ tables. At lunch time, the restaurant will feature a noodle bar that offers udon and bento boxes, as well as dumplings and some favorites from the Orient. The option of a juicy Kobe burger will round out the offerings. Opens Christmas 2008. (Snowmass, CO. The New Snowmass Base Village)

The Office

The Office, Buchi Tavern is not the only new Jeffrey Klein inspired restaurant underway. He has also taken over The Cirque at the end of the Snowmass Mall: “It was a great opportunity to take a space that has a tremendous amount of potential,” the entrepreneur commented. Casual in fare, The Office will be salad and sandwich oriented, serving rotisserie chicken, pastrami and corned beef sandwiches and “the best burgers around,” according to Klein. For the crack of dawn skiers, there will be a breakfast menu, and for those partying ’til the crack of dawn, The Office will stay open until 2 a.m. A DJ booth, big-screen movie nights and a Wii station will bring new energy to Snowmass night life. Eager diners won’t have to wait long: Opens November 20, 2008. (Snowmass, CO. The New Snowmass Base Village, 125 Daly Lane.)

Sneaky’s Tavern

Sneaky’s Tavern, Aspen Skiing Company Hospitality will operate and deliver “Colorado Bistro” style cuisine at lunch time, après and dinner. Located adjacent to The Treehouse and mere steps from the Village Express chairlift, Sneaky’s Tavern will no doubt be a very popular destination for those looking to break bread in a relaxed, comfortable setting. Named after Jim “Sneaky” Snobble, Snowmass’ first mountain manager, the neighborhood tavern will offer locals’ specials, a family- friendly ambience and a place “where everybody knows your dog’s name.” The indoor/outdoor bar/restaurant will serve something for every palate including: stews, a selection of salads, pulled pork, “cabin flatbreads,” roasted ground bison meatloaf, locally raised beef burgers and a cavatapi style noodle “mac and cheese” for the youngsters and the young at heart, as well as homemade desserts like warm bread pudding with whiskey caramel sauce. Opens winter 2008-2009. (Snowmass, CO. The New Snowmass Base Village, 970/925-1220; www.sneakystavern.com)
