You want to visit Aspen Snowmass in the winter and you don't plan to ski or snowboard. What fun winter activities
does Aspen Snowmass offer beyond skiing and riding?
Let's begin our exploration of winter activities in Snowmass. Board the Elk Camp Gondola and enjoy the views of Snowmass Village, the Elk Mountains, and people skiing and riding underneath the lift.
When you arrive at the top of the lift, use your Activities Pass to go tubing or ride the Breathtaker Alpine Coaster
, which started running December 2017. The tubing
area has multiple lanes and a magic carpet so you can easily get back to the top. On the Breathtaker Alpine Coaster, zip through an evergreen forest on an elevated track at speeds up to 28 mph.
Another fun option on Snowmass Mountain is snowshoeing. Gear up for a guided snowshoe tour with a naturalist guide from the Aspen Center for Environmental Studies (ACES).
You can do all of these activities — tubing, riding the coaster, and snowshoeing — at night during Ullr Nights, which is a family-friendly celebration of fun in the snow held weekly on Fridays during the winter.
Now you know about Snowmass Mountain activities, let's find out about Aspen. On Aspen Mountain, ride the Silver Queen Gondola and go snowshoeing with an ACES naturalist. Hike out onto Gent’s Ridge, enjoy the views, and learn what plants and animals are up to in the winter. When you return from your snowshoeing adventure, visit the Sundeck for lunch and then ride the gondola back into Aspen. Off the mountain, check out ice climbing with Aspen Expeditions
. Spend the day climbing a frozen waterfall and learn how to use ice climbing tools.
